Partners in innovation
Since 1999, MLA has been proactively stimulating commercial investment in innovation through its fully owned subsidiary, MLA Donor Company (MDC). The MDC provides a mechanism for attracting commercial investment from individual enterprises and matching this with surplus Commonwealth research and development (R&D) funds.
Through the Partners in Innovation Program, the MDC aims to significantly increase the level of investment in R&D by the red meat industry and increase the innovation culture and capability of individual enterprises and the industry as a whole.
Objectives
The primary objectives of MLA’s Partners in Innovation Program are to:
- Assist individual enterprises within the Australian red meat industry to achieve greater competitiveness through innovation
- Increase the number of successful commercialised innovations available to the red meat industry
- Achieve commercial returns and bottom line benefit for partner companies
- Build the capacity of companies in the red meat industry to establish innovation as a core business strategy
- Demonstrate to the wider industry the commercial benefits achieved from investment in innovation.
Already more than 70 companies from all sectors of the industry are collaborating with MLA in its Partners in Innovation Program. Jointly funded innovation projects are targeting real business issues and the participating companies are achieving positive outcomes for their own bottom line.
