Value added products
A product is classified as 'value added' if its raw material has been processed to achieve an increased market value. Value added products have applications in both food and non-food markets.
Examples of value added red meat products include:
- Adding extra ingredients to the raw meat, such as bread crumbs for schnitzel or vegetables for stir fries
- Cooking the raw meat prior to selling, such as pre-cooked roasts
- New red meat product packaging solutions to improve shelf-life and convenience
- New product applications from rendered material, such as biodiesels
- Development of bioactive products from red meat offal and waste
In today's competitive market, value added red meat products must remain economically viable. MLA's value added programs have specifically being developed to help the red meat industry capture more value per head of animal.
