The Beef Splitter is a automated system that uses a circular saw mounted on a robot, together with an integrated guidance mechanism to track the spine from the inside and outside of the carcase.

The Beef Splitter is currently in the research phase, as a joint development between MLA and Machinery Automation & Robotics (MAR).
More Information
Beef splitting is a task that currently carries many OH&S risks due to the physical exertion required to operate the industrial band saws used for the task. It is also a task that requires a skilled worker, so as to prevent any yield loss. For these reasons beef splitting is a task that many beef processors would like to see automated.
